Lack of Collaborative Data, the real issue of the food supply chain
The Covid pandemic has brought to the forefront that although traditional food supply chains are highly effective - they are not adaptable to unexpected disruptive situations. Optimised to drive production efficiencies and reduce cost for companies and consumers, they lack a collaborative approach, shared data standards and system integration between the various parties. Covid brought this into the public domain due to stories of the dumping of milk and crops and on the other hand the lack of available produce in supermarkets and food banks. Is it time for the global food ecosystem to start sharing data more generously and building a collaborative and adaptive system?
